MESSAGE FROM THE MINISTER OF TOURISM
NICOLE MÉNARD
I am indeed pleased to serve as Honorary Chair of the International Symposium on Sustainable Tourism Development, the first gathering of this scope to be held in Québec. Under the theme “Sustainable tourism for the future,” this event will assemble specialists and speakers from Québec and abroad who will share with us their expertise, know-how and best practices in the realm of sustainable tourism. It will afford the tourism industry and communities an opportunity to grasp the principles of sustainable tourism development, take stock of key questions and adhere to this approach through promising, concrete initiatives.
The Symposium reflects not only the importance that the Québec government attaches to the question of sustainable development but also confirms its determination to rally the industry and communities to the cause of sustainable tourism.
Moreover, this Symposium offers an ideal opportunity to consolidate a partnership between the tourism industry and the Québec government to ensure that Québec ranks among the great tourist destinations and becomes a leader in sustainable tourism.
It is with considerable pride that I reiterate my predecessor's invitation to participate in the International Symposium on Sustainable Tourism Development, to be held on March 17, 18 and 19, 2009 at the Centre des congrès de Québec.
I extend to all participants my best wishes for fruitful exchanges and a successful Symposium.
