THE INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON SUSTAINABLE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

The International Symposium on Sustainable Tourism Development is an initiative of the Ministère du Tourisme du Québec. The event, a first for Québec, will be held in Québec City from Tuesday, March 17 to Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the Centre des congrès de Québec.

The Transat Chair in Tourism, School of Management at the Université du Québec à Montréal produced the symposium program and its contents, as well as the participant booklet. The Chair has also collaborated on the choice of speakers, panellists and moderators and the coordination of their participation in the event.

The theme of the Symposium: Sustainable tourism for the future

The different subjects discussed in the presentations and workshops will allow the participants to understand, be informed and become aware of the principles and practices of tourism in a sustainable development perspective.

Each day of the Symposium will begin with a presentation, followed by a series of workshops and ending with a closing presentation. Speakers and facilitators from Québec and abroad who are specialists in the questions discussed will make this Symposium a dynamic forum for transferring expertise and sharing experiences. Each workshop will involve interventions and a question period.

A welcoming cocktail party and a closing dinner in various Québec City restaurants are scheduled. An Exhibition will be held parallel to the Symposium.
